These were young hens and it was bedtime. It was our second batch and the first batch were aggressive to them. Weatherdude used to protect the new hens from the old hens and they quickly took to using him for protection.

They left for a new home a week ago, the nine old girls. It's the only way to get at the rats. These are very young and all of them have passed away, alas. We didn't socialize the hens as much after the first two groups.

I'll miss your chicken stories. Have to look forward to cat and ocean stories now. And house-renovation stories. And moving stories.

Strange how they all seem to be looking at the camera, especially the one in the middle.

curiosity about the flash, maybe? They do like light. There's a bulb in the coop, but the flash is brighter and I took a number of photos that night.

It's too bad we're not living in the future, when you'll be able to take this photo and print it out as a 3d statue for your new garden.
