Sitting Here

I am sitting on my deck as the sun fades. We just had our first cookout, too hot to eat in the house, especially with that dead heat pump I have.

I am listening to crows. I am listening to lots of peacocks, more than I remember hearing other years from neighbors a few properties away. I am looking at my newly mown lawn (what I did today). A catbird calls. There's enough of an inversion that I'm hearing lots of traffic noise from a couple of miles away on Rt 7 as if it were much closer.

The chickens are still scratching. They don't want to go inside yet. The cats are out trolling and patrolling. Thomas is sitting under a bush, but he hurt his paw in a fight last night.

The Dude tells me a mouse couple has moved into the frog's birdhouse down by the chicken coop.

And the peepers get increasingly louder as the light fades. Noticeably so. Like turning up the volume on the stereo. I love this.

Sounds like a relaxing Sunday, Oz.

The Dude tells me a mouse couple has moved into the frog's birdhouse down by the chicken coop.

Are they living in sin or is this just modern mice cohabitation? ;-)

I suspect they are up to no good and he will abandon her as soon as the babies are born. But we told Eloise they were married. Because, after all, we shouldn't judge. Not even mice.

But we told Eloise they were married.

If they were church mice I'm wondering if they could get divorced. Depends on the church, I guess. But if they were poor as church mice, then child support might be a problem. The moral here: only marry a rich mouse!

Your ecosystem loves you, and you love it!

The fun to me is experiencing the differences and similarities between here and Judy's place. But yes, this is almost the perfect ecosystem for me. Just slightly more maritime, that's all my skin and hair would ask.

Ah yes, as much as I love the desert, the sea air is incomparable.
