This was a funky process, but the end result is pleasing because I'm no longer the least bit concerned about any aspect of the bathroom that's pink. It's not a space that gets a lot of sunlight, it's under the pines on the back side of the house. So I was looking to emphasize that in the end. I suspect I succeeded on some level. G-Dude is a whiz with a paintbrush and installing stuff and mounting towel racks, etc. He's also most excellent at covering up my samples and my splotchy messes. Which is why he's the painter. We're both writers, so I can't say 'and that's why I'm the writer.'

Next is to replace the toilet seat with something that matches the towel rack, etc. But I can do that part myself. I still have the funky tile floor and it's fine with this color. The pink-beige side tiles are no longer so offensive.

Without flash, using the new fluorescent, which is too white for my taste...

This is pear green with pueblo brown (red tones) to simulate trees and leaves/needles.

Or you can call it bilious green...

And one with flash for comparison, but I think it washes the color out:

Now there's a bathroom!!
Jan. 29th, 2010 11:20 pm (UTC)
I like it. A lot. I'm so 'wonder bread' usually that doing something this strong is kind of fun.
Jan. 29th, 2010 11:18 pm (UTC)
Cool! That turned out really nice.

I can't wait to see how it looks with a bulb that's not quite so harshly white. I like my bulbs just a bit softer. Bright, but slightly more yellow. I think it will make it greener.

I think it's going to look nice on an afternoon with the sun coming through the pines.
Jan. 29th, 2010 11:53 pm (UTC)
That's... green, all right.
Jan. 30th, 2010 12:05 am (UTC)
Da! Good thing green is my favorite color, huh?

Now we'll see if I can live with it. Pink? What pink?

yup. After I actually painted the dining room yellow, how could I be afraid of saturated colors? And muted just wasn't working for me. Weatherdude to the rescue. He advocated the greens, trying to get close to Delia's suggestion. I'm not sure we did, but the suggestion for using a wood towel rack was a good one. I wouldn't have thought to do that.

I wonder what color we'll change our bedroom to? And of course, Miss E is ahead of us with her room, which has 3 saturated colors in pink and purples.

It's very green.
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:29 am (UTC)
hey! we've established that you're not color-blind!

I, on the other hand, may well be.
Jan. 30th, 2010 12:57 am (UTC)
Heh. I think it's safe to say that no one will even notice the pink bathtub now! :)

Looks good, Oz. Well done!
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:30 am (UTC)
Oh, that tub! It turns out it's merely beige, after all, doesn't it? I can live with beige. :D
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:31 am (UTC)
Cool. GREEN! I so wish I had a place of my own to paint walls whichever the hell color I want.
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:50 am (UTC)
Look, ma, it's bilious green! Tub? What tub?
Jan. 30th, 2010 02:32 am (UTC)
You are a bold, bold family. That's green!
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:10 pm (UTC)
I don't know if The Dude or Miss E would be this bold in their bathroom(s). But this has inspired Miss E to request a paint job in the hall bathroom to blue. It's the one room in this house that has never been changed since we bought the place 8 years ago. Still country beige with a border.

Love it! Go Green! (There are, for the record, 8 different shades of green in my apartment--none of them quite that. . . decided, but all of them very, very green).

Love the towel rack, too. Are you going to put up pictures?
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:13 pm (UTC)
We were trying to find that parrot green that goes toward blue, but failed. Still this is definitely a parakeet green. I haven't had any pictures on the wall in there, but I was just thinking, wouldn't something look nice on these walls? Not sure what, yet. I have lots of choices around, things that were removed to make room for more books. I'm liking the way the color shifts with the light.
Jan. 30th, 2010 11:08 am (UTC)
Lovely! What a happy, cheery colour. It puts a smile on my face just looking at it. I'm glad it's all sorted out!
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:14 pm (UTC)
Whew! Me, too! There's no mirror in there, so there's no issue with reflected color. I can't wait for a nice, sunny afternoon to see what it looks like with the light filtering in through the trees.
Jan. 30th, 2010 12:30 pm (UTC)
That looks great.
Jan. 30th, 2010 01:16 pm (UTC)
It's certainly different than it was! And while it's not required by code, I now have an exhaust fan installed that should keep the mildew/mold from coming back. Not to mention it also has a heater for those chilly winter mornings. Miss E and I have already tried it out and it's a thumbs-up.
Jan. 30th, 2010 06:12 pm (UTC)
Yep. That's drama. Love it.
Jan. 30th, 2010 06:21 pm (UTC)
Ah, yes. Drama. It's so out of character for me, isn't it?
Jan. 30th, 2010 11:34 pm (UTC)
The green in my newly-painted bathroom is nearly as bright. I wanted sage; I got jelly bean green. But it's so cheerful that I have grown to love it.

The tub is a non-issue now. It's jealous of the walls, though.

it's very jealous. It should be so bright and cheery.

Sage to jelly bean green is quite a distance! In some houses the chips look very different on the walls, especially when you have a lot of indirect light like I do.

It's good, yes. I'm enjoying it and I'm really happy with the result. The muted tones weren't working for me...someone gave me links to a site that explains how beige and gray works and that was very helpful. The beige/pink tiles kept throwing the colors off.
