I began my drive back to VA and home this morning. And no more than 15 miles from the start, as I accelerated away from a toll booth, my car began to make a terrible noise. Flying along in the midst of all this noise, I made several phone calls to obtain diagnostic assistance. The long-distance conclusion was that my exhaust system had a leak of some kind. A very, very noisy one. In the engine end of things, so possibly my air intakes would now contain a fair amount of CO for a 9-10 hour drive. If I had been further into the journey, I probably would have continued. But seeing that I was so close the beginning (now 30 miles, at a rest area), I decided to turn around and get a mechanic's opinion on Monday morning. My sister drove out and drove behind me all the way back as I didn't want to be alone with a dead car in a tunnel under Boston harbor, should such come to pass. Which, of course, didn't happen. But having had alternators die on me, I was unwilling to take the chance alone if I didn't have to.
So I am not back home. I had dinner again with my parents, which was quite nice and lively. Miss E and The Dude miss me and I miss them. Much cat news was shared by phone. And I am a bit further in my draft.
