NaNo NoGo

I'm throwing in the towel for 2010 on NaNoWriMo. It was exhilarating to finish all 50k words last year and generate new story drafts. People on my f-list were cheering me on for the final sprint and that's why I was able to finish. I've generated about 10k this year, but none of it feels right. I'm just not feeling the love. If I kept typing, I suppose I would find a story in there somewhere. But I keep thinking about all the drafts I have that aren't yet edited. And that I was working on editing some of them when NaNo rolled around. And I think I should listen to that thought.

Thanks for the support. I've been licking my wounds for a couple of weeks, but it was still the right (I typed 'write') decision. I have several non-writing things going on and I needed to make sure I focused on them, too.

I think you should always do what feels right for you.

I do too. But what amazes me is that if I hadn't done NaNo before, I wouldn't have known what was 'right.' People who put it down have never tried it, imo.

You tried and you learned something. Success.

Yup. I learned that there's a difference between that point where you feel dissatisfied with what you're writing and where you have other things besides writing to take care of first.

This make a lot of sense to me. That inner voice never lets you down.

There's a difference between this inner voice and my inner critic. That was a new thing to learn.

Aww, shame. But a good reason to stop.

I know I'm not going to make it either, but I'm enjoying the trying to get things worked out more regularly.

I'm glad NaNo is doing something for you in terms of your process. For me, that's what it's for. And I'm just disappointed not to be able to use this year's icons. They're the best yet.

I have heard an offer of a face to face small group meeting in mid-Feb, just before the craziness of tax season sets in. If it actually happens and if I'm going to participate, it has to be new material. And I have two stories in rough to choose from. Both of which were drafted in a past NaNo but never edited.

Learning to listen to that thought is a great thing. :)

yeah, I agree. Learning to distinguish that thought from my inner critic that says it all sucks is a great thing. Because the inner critic is wrong and this voice seems to be right.
