Goliath

Here on Walkabout Farm we have animals with unusual personalities. Goliath is a bit fast with his claws, even if he wants you to keep petting him. And if he sits in your lap, don't move. He'll give you a quick swat, claws extended, if you dare.

Goliath the wonder cat is 14 years old. I fell in love with this cat when he was at a Petco from a local shelter. He was 11 then. He did this 'trick' back then. He does it whenever he wants something. Back then, he wanted out of the stupid cage. Now he does it when he wants some dinner, petting, stuff like that. My first youtube video, made with Miss E's Bloggie.

ETA: Next time, we'll film without the little plastic piece that covers the lens to protect it.

Bet your cat doesn't do this.

There are actually four cats in this video. Ferb is below Goliath at the beginning. Doodle (Casey) is on the arm of the couch. Phineas is on my shirt on the back of the couch.

Wait. Do I know you? Have you shown up on my flist before? Are you, like, real?

No, no, don't think we know each other IRL. Just fictionally.

Cool! I bet Goliath plays a mean air guitar too. ;-)

He has the highest score in the house. PD is still depressed about it, as you can see.

Yeah. My heart melted when I saw him do it. He's a unique guy. Now if he just wasn't quite so fast with his claws, so quick to take offense where none was intended...(resembles his owner at times)

Was he a cheer leader in a past life? :) Adorable! And congrats on your first video. :)

I don't know what he was, other than opinionated and cranky and adorable, all at once. He has very clear ideas of what he wants and when he wants it. He stopped doing this move after he moved in and wasn't caged any longer. Then he did it once or twice around dinnertime and we've been encouraging him to do it when he wants affection, rewarding him with lots of scratching and petting. Seems to be working.

this is great! though Miss E's "well YA I got it" vies with Goliath for the cute award ;).

(and great to see you round these parts again ;)

Even funnier is a video of feeding all of the cats and her saying "badda-bing, badda-boom" about whether she got the shot. We have no idea where she learned that.

50lbs of attitude. Miss E, not Goliath. He's more like 10 pounds of attitude. And yes, he's a stunning fur ball. Still our most conversational cat, he talked several times in the video.

Delightful performance! I was just remarking to Louise last night about how our cats each have one trick. Unfortunately, Pif's trick when she wants attention is to bat something off from a high place. Why couldn't she be cute like Goliath?

They do seem to be able to learn at least one and to have different tricks. I enjoy having more than one cat for the sheer variety of personalities.

That is totally cool! What I love is the way he finally does the trick, like , "Well, okay, if it will make you happy, I'll do it."

That's a cat for you. I wasn't sure he would EVER do it with a camera rolling. That's why I was asking her if she got the shot. He's no spring chicken and I really want to be able to remember this unique thing he does. I have photos of it, but it's not the same.

Hah! I've never seen a cat do that. Wow.

Our office dog does it though, all the time. Oh Goliath, don't you know you're letting your people down by doing dog tricks?

Oh, lots of dogs do this, but a cat? And a dog will do it more on command. Goliath has to be carefully coaxed into doing it...you'll notice I had to scratch his chin and then back off and ask if he would like me to do more of the same? (It's his favorite thing when he wants attention.) Goliath doesn't really beg to get things like food. He does this to say he wants something, wants US to do something.

That's great. And I also loved the soundtrack -- Miss E's sarcasm.
