And Then There's Walkabout...

An idyllic spring continues. I have some photos to post that will make eyes water if you have allergies. Lots and lots of pollen. Weatherdude says we need rain. Maybe tomorrow. Colder temperatures are coming, just in time for the big Easter Bunny celebration at chez Walkabout.

The girls know their way around. Most hang at the house, but Weatherdude finds them pretty far away at times. We have dirtbaths in unlikely locations. I no longer wear street shoes in the yard and I think barefoot is out altogether. If you step outside, you quickly gather a posse of camp followers. They're quite interested in anything we're doing, especially Walkabout.

Today, Weatherdude leaned over a fence to check on a chicken hanging out on the other side. Our cats have a way of jumping up on the railing anytime we're near one, the better to talk to us. So it was only mildly surprising when Walkabout did the same thing as a cat. Only she flew up to the railing to say hello.

But wait, there's more. If Walkabout can do it, why can't I? a chicken asks herself. So she gives it her all. She flaps her wings. She tries to fly up onto the railing. THWOCK! Chicken hits the fence and Weatherdude dies laughing. I nearly snorted my Diet Coke when he told me.

Apparently Walkabout truly is a unique bird. A bird her size really shouldn't be able to fly, whether it's onto a fence railing or over the temporary run's fence. But I'm not going to tell her that.
