What Happened Next

What happened next (as requested by baddolly) is that I have discovered the woodchuck is awaiting my appearance with food. Because shortly after I replaced the board (on end, see previous post), let the girls out, tossed out the broody hen to get at 5 eggs she was sitting on, fed them and returned to the house...the board moved. Tossed aside, it were. Unceremoniously.

I told E to hold down the fort (we were expecting a playdate) and went out to fix the wall. I laid two boards along that side with lots of concrete blocks and bricks to hold them in place. Also dumped the rest of the spicing at his entrances and exits. Not that it works.

I would accept the Dude's suggestion of beaming him aboard a klingon vessel (see anonymous comment in previous posting) except that we haven't got a working transporter. The Dude has to fix the lawn tractor before he can tackle the transporter. (Thank goodness for drought conditions or the grass would be waist high.) His interim suggestion of cage and release still seems crueler than using the transporter when it gets fixed. Alternately, this story does eventually end in late October when the little monster goes to ground for the winter. Preferably NOT in the barn under the coop.

Maybe there's some sort of woodchuck brothel around you can send him to.
