Rain and Mouse Kings

It rained yesterday, it rained last night. Puddles and puddles of rain. And here I am, early on Sat morning, looking out my window and the pine needles have droplets on the end that are flashing jewel-like in the sun all the colors of the rainbow. And my mind immediately jumped to the image in the Wendy story where Little Wendy collects them in her pinafore pocket. Because, yes, that's where the image was born. Staring out my window as I wrote, noting significant detail. We've had so little rain this summer and the conditions have to be just right to see this effect. It's passing as I write this.

Did the fast edit to the Mouse King yesterday, adding dialog instead of narration in selected places, tightening up what I let the reader know, deleting a few things that didn't work for the readers, just confused them in terms of where I wanted them to focus. Sent it off to a new reader for an opinion. Been saving this reader in my back pocket, I have. And now I need his/her/its opinion, with all his/her/its fairy lore brought to focus.
