Analog? Woohoo! Congrats!

Thanks! Yup, to Analog. Took me forever to write, but a story I've always been fond of. First sale to anyone.

Very impressive first sale!

Big Congrats! Must admit I'm surprised. No, not with your talent, just that I didn't know you wrote hard SF. What's the story about? I wanna read it!

Again, Way Cool!

You're most welcome to read it when it comes out, just don't critique it for The Fix!

I already know what every critic has to say about Analog...predictable and boring and nothing to write home about.

Oh and Stan says he takes any story, even marginal fantasy stories, as long as there is some science element, hard or soft.

Yup. "wow" sums it up. Just sort of doing a silly dance here, that involves spinning round and round until you fall down dizzy. Now if I can just write an eensy bit faster, I might have a career!

Big hug. Hugs all around.

Happy spinning! And don't worry about your writing speed right now. Analog is a huge market to crack--enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Big hug back. Merry Christmas!

Sale to Analog?!?!

Go you!!! Hooray!!!
Dec. 25th, 2007 04:42 pm (UTC)
yup, sale to Analog. Took some of his mafia critiquing it to know that Analog was a possible market for it. Silly me.

¡Enhorabuena hija! I read the story in an early stage. Not boring, and it speaks well of Stan to realize he needed to buy it.

I reread the original draft a while ago and I was amazed at how much made it into the final one, though I had to drop some of the "games" I had created. The "voice" was there in the original, which was cool to see.

Of course you read the story then. You never skimped a crit.

So how soon is your Asimov debut?

Dec. 26th, 2007 07:15 pm (UTC)
March 2008 issue. Which goes on sale in February. Be sure to notify us when we can buy your story.
Dec. 25th, 2007 08:13 pm (UTC)
YAY! Huge congrats, Oz, and I'm very very proud of you.

I wish I could brag that I had some part in helping you by critting it, but I don't think I ever saw it (or did I, way back in Clarion?).

Your tenacity is awe-inspiring. Can't wait to read the story again, for the 1st time...
Dec. 26th, 2007 01:55 am (UTC)
It was there at Clarion, the original draft is in the collection, but whether you had time to read it, I don't know. Things were pretty hectic and a lot of the group didn't have time.

I remember reading the first draft of "Crossing the Camp." In fact, I recently found a box in my basement that contains my own collection of Clarion first drafts from our year. I have every one.

My making a sale is NOT cooler than you making a sale!

Just keep at it. You're very close. He's courting you with memos.

Dec. 27th, 2007 01:43 pm (UTC)
I knew you could do it...and anyone who says "James Tiptree could pull off this kind of story but surely you can't" is a Class A idiot.

Nice work, Hypatia (just don't let the mob get you)--

Dec. 28th, 2007 02:25 am (UTC)
Re: Zowie
It was more like "James Tiptree could write like this and get away with it, but I'm not sure *you* can..."

And he's eaten his words already...I fed them to him. And he didn't know me when he said it.

Thank you for your continued faith that Some Day, some Unnamed Day, I would have that first sale.

Assuming I ever sent anything out, of course.

Dec. 27th, 2007 04:59 pm (UTC)
Woo hoo!!!!! That's great news and wowza, what a first sale!! Congratulations!
Dec. 28th, 2007 02:21 am (UTC)
Thank you veddy much! The question is, can I do it again? (Maybe if Stan would actually tell me what he liked, I could.) It's not as big as Harper Collins, but hey, I'll take it.
