Doing Something for Myself

The fall has been about doing things for everyone else. There's been little time to write and no time to do something purely hedonistic just for me. The last time my hair was cut was at the end of August. The last time my hair saw chemicals, it was May. Monday, OzCon was wrapping up. Tuesday was make the car legal (needed to replace windshield so it could pass inspection...sticker expired at end of Sept). Wednesday was Me Day. A long drive into the city and a long way back in time to pick up E from school. It takes my entire "day" (i.e. time I can do things).

I'm always happy when Sue takes out the scissors and the chemicals. She claims I start to look like Little House on the Prairie. I like having hilites. A lot. More fun than having color done to cover the gray. And Sue is incredible at making it look very, very natural. I have trouble a) calling ahead enough to get an appt before I'm due somewhere; b) finding a chunk of time to go...like an entire 'workday' or most of a Sat.

It's not pink or purple, but it's chemical and I was starved for it. I asked them where to get some punky colors for a streak or two (I'm partial to green) in this very conservative area...nothing like Seattle, where I'm sure EVERYONE knows where to get pretty colors. It must liven up the Seattle gray quite a bit. But a streak for a con would be fun. A trip down Clarion memory lane for me. The girls bonded over dye at the end.

From time to time my hair still displays streaks of an unnatural shade of red.
