Kind of Cute

Well, safewrite is a new grandma. Not in any way to diminish her new role, which is very cool and I'm very happy for her, but I sort of feel like a grandma myself.

It doesn't really fit in the carton, but it's cute.

Here it is, flanked by the super-jumbos our girls lay. They often don't fit in the carton either, but for a different reason.

Basically, it's currently too cute to eat. And no, it won't hatch. Weatherdude is the only rooster allowed on Walkabout Farm.

Aww. You're making me hungry. (hence the yam now cooking in the microwave.)

It reminds me of my first attempt to write a novel.

Cute egg! Do you have a pullet?

Theo says, "Don't eat it!"

As in hens under a year old? Yes, we have 10! The old girls are now over 2 years old and laying about a dozen eggs a WEEK instead of a dozen a day (well, only six left, so maybe a dozen every other day). This is the first egg from the new ones that arrived on March 17th. So they were probably hatched in the winter if they're about ready to lay.

And no, we won't eat it. Not yet, anyway. Once there are loads and I can't tell them apart, well, then it might disappear. Another 3 weeks or so for production to set in.

Oh, and did Theo see the pix of the hens perching on the Dude's shoulders?
